Description:
I created this film for the"Big Ad Contest for Products That Don’t Exist" by Runway, where there were several fictional briefs and insights to choose from. I picked the one for a rechargeable AA battery, built on the brief: "Show that this battery lasts so long, it outlasts relationships, jobs, apartments — it’s the only constant in someone’s life."

I wanted to tell an somewhat emotional story rather than create a visual firework, something that feels simple, human, and grounded.

Visually, I went for a slightly unusual mix of stylized 3D characters with photorealistic textures. Batteries are not really around as much so the story is set in a subtle retro world to make the battery feel more natural in use.

Out of several thousands of submissions , my ad made it into the top 25 winners

What began as a simple test to create consistency with Runway’s Gen-4 References turned into the most ambitious and complex AI project I’ve tackled so far.

It is not really short film but rather the effort to create something slightly challenging in the AI space.

One continuous, long scene at the same consistent location with the same consistent characters, using a wide range of camera angles and shot types to create tension.

Inspired by the recent wave of excellent assassin and spy content, I wanted to create something different from the usual sci-fi and fantasy worlds often seen in AI projects.

Originally, a friend of mine, who is an actor, was the protagonist in this AI-generated short. However, once it was completed, he wasn’t entirely sure it was the right move. So, I had to swap his face with someone else at the last minute. Now I am young, fit and have luscious hair. Everybody wins. Thanks AI.
